　　巧記that與who（whom）的異同

　　1．相同點：that和who引導(dǎo)定語從句時都可指人，在定語從句中作主語或賓語，作賓語時可省略。

　　Do you know the man that/who spoke at the meeting just now?

　　你認(rèn)識剛才在會議上講話的那個人嗎？（指人，作主語）

　　He is the man (that/who/whom) they talked about just now.

　　他就是剛才他們談?wù)摰哪莻�人。（指人，作賓語，可省略）

　　2． 不同點：

　�。�1）如果先行詞（指人）作表語，關(guān)系代詞只能用that，而不能用who，如：

　　He isn’t the man that he used to be.

　　=He isn’t what he used to be.   他已不是原來的那個樣子了。

　�。�2）在非限制性定語從句中，先行詞指人時不能用that而要用who（whom）。

　　Last week I met Jim, who seemed very worried. 上周我碰到了吉姆，他好像很焦慮。

　　On the second floor, there lived a young man, who was an artist. 二樓住著一個青年畫家。

　�。�3）關(guān)系代詞前有介詞時，只能用whom。如：

　　The man to whom you spoke just now is our English teacher.  你剛才同他說話的那個人是我們的英語老師。

　�。�4）當(dāng)先行詞和關(guān)系代詞被介詞短語分離時（即分離式定語從句）一般只有that。

　　I was the only people in my office who was invited.我是我們辦公室里唯一被邀請的人。

　　Do you know the woman in blue with a baby on her backwho is working in the field?

　　你認(rèn)識那個穿著藍(lán)色衣服，背上背著一個孩子，正在田里勞動的婦女嗎？

　�。�5）一個句子若有兩個定語從句且先行詞指人時，關(guān)系代詞一個用that，另一個宜用who，以免重復(fù)。如：

　　The boy that was praised at yesterday’s meeting is a student who studies very hard.

　　昨天在會上受到表揚的那個男孩，是一位學(xué)習(xí)努力的學(xué)生。

　�。�6）當(dāng)先行詞為代詞he，they，those（指人）和不定代詞（one，anyone， everyone）時，只能用who。如：

　　Anyone who failed in the English exam should be criticized.   英語考試不及格的同學(xué)應(yīng)該受到批評。

　　He who does not reach the Great Wall isn’t a true man. 不到長城非好漢。

　�。�7）指人的先行詞位于there be 后時，一般用who，而不用that。如：

　　There is a student who wants to ask you some questions.  有位同學(xué)想問你幾個問題。
